The Model 2 heralded the first full production, commercial Beveridge system. It is a full range electrostatic speaker employing the patented Beveridge acoustic lens system. It is driven by a built-in, dedicated Class A OTL tube power amplifier of high quality. Full 180o cylindrical front waveform dispersion. As with all Beveridge speakers, the rear panel radiation is totally absorbed within the enclosure, thus eliminating any interference or cancellation by rear-generated waves. The direct derivatives of Model 2 were the Models 2-sw1/sw2. They aimed to achieve an increased "headroom", or total SPL. To that end, the main electrostatic transducer is relieved from reproducing the lowest octave. Two independent dynamic subwoofer enclosures now covered the 30-70Hz (sw-1) and 30-100Hz (sw-2) ranges, crossed over by a high quality, built-in electronic network. The subwoofers are of the infinite baffle design. The electrostatic transducers continued to be housed in the Model II-legacy, elegant cabinets, but frontal sound slot was enlarged from 6" to 6.75", with a corresponding increase in throat width. The Models II-sw1/sw2 modified design of the acoustic lens takes advantage of the fact that the lowest fundamental octave is no longer required to be reproduced by the electrostatic transducers and lenses. The II-sw1/sw2 thus achieve a total SPL increase of some 10db over the original Model 2. As with the earlier model, the sw1/sw2 electrostatic panels are driven by a built-in, Class A OTL tube power amplifier of high quality. The subwoofers enjoy separate, solid state amplification. An additional, external CM-1 control module is added to the entire system (sw1) and allows the listener a wide range of control over the system's reproduction characteristics: subwoofer integration boost/cut, continuous variation of stereo separation from the widest down to mono operation, etc. The Models 2-sw1/sw2 produce a full 180o cylindrical front waveform dispersion. As with all Beveridge speakers, the rear panel radiation is totally absorbed within the enclosure, thus eliminating any interference or cancellation by rear-generated waves. SPECIFICATIONS: sensitivity:
85db (103db peak); 95db (115db peak) for sw1/sw2
