The G3 is Rick Beveridge's redesign
of the Model 3.
Like the original,
the G3 is a hybrid (electrostatic/dynamic) system.
So, it can handle substantial sound pressure levels,
employ bi-amplification, etc.
-
cabinets
A G3 system is comprised of two line sources and two woofers,
all of which share the same semi-elliptical footprint.
Because the back of each cabinet is flat,
it can be placed easily against a wall;
the narrow front minimizes the cabinet's apparent width.
The height of the line sources (6'6")
and their wide dispersion angle (180 degrees)
ensure that most listeners
will be "in the beam" of high-quality audio.
The G3 cabinets may have almost any desired finish:
paint, veneer, wallpaper, etc.
The tops and bottoms of all cabinets are capped in marble.
The 30" woofer cabinets may be used as end tables.
-
internals
Like the Model 3, the G3 is a hybrid system.
Custom-built electrostatic drivers and lenses
generate and disperse frequencies between 200 and 20,000 Hz.
A high-quality dynamic driver handles lower frequencies.
Each line source cabinet contains integrated electronics,
allowing it to be driven from a conventional amplifier.
The audio path incorporates high-quality drive capacitors
and custom step-up transformers.
Integrated power supplies provide the polarizing voltage.
Each woofer cabinet contains a high-quality 10" driver,
backed by a 30' transmission line.
This provides the sound pressure levels and agile response
needed to match the performance of the line sources.
Note:
The G3 is the first member of the "Galadriel" series,
named in memory of Gladys Beveridge and Galadriel,
the Beveridge's beloved Cal-34 sailboat.
Gladys named the boat after her favorite character
in J.R.R. Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy.
The graceful shape and internal strength
of the Galadriel systems echo both their aquatic namesake
and Gladys herself.
